In a world of reducing, reusing and recycling, more and more of us are seeking out new ways to lessen our impact on the environment. The concepts of car-sharing and cycling or walking to work are well-established, but now a new alternative is making a large splash in the eco-friendly pond.
A Green Alternative For Commuters
Electric bikes are becoming increasingly popular in the UK (In 2013 25,000 e-bikes were sold in the UK alone), and are providing urban commuters in particular with a method of travelling to work that is both green and convenient.
E-bikes can offer commuters a zero-emission substitute to travelling by car, and a method of transport which won’t find them arriving at work hot and exhausted.
A Challenge To Standard Bicycles?
A study from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology recently argued that the increased exertion of cyclists on standard bikes, including exhaling more CO2, negated any environmental superiority to e-bikes. The study also found that riding an e-bike produces more than ten times less greenhouse gas than driving a sedan. In addition the ease of using e-bikes may encourage users to travel longer distances than they would consider with a standard bike.
Advantages Over Motor Vehicles
The environmental impact of the batteries used for e-bikes and the effects of generating electricity pales in comparison to the potential benefits.
The environmental protection agency reports that road transport makes up 22% of UK carbon dioxide emissions, as well as reducing air quality and increasing noise pollution.
As well as having none of these issues e-bikes represent a move towards safer neighbourhoods with less motor traffic on roads during busy periods.
Issues that may deter the average commuter from cycling, such as climbing hills and tackling head winds, are rendered null and void with the use of an e-bike. With these concerns removed more and more environmentally-minded car users are switching to the greener e-bike option.
Eco Expedition Electric Bikes are as eco-friendly as possible
Eco Expedition Electric Bikes are built with the express intention of not only providing an easy and fun way to travel, but also providing a viable alternative to the carbon emissions of motorised vehicles. As well as being as eco-friendly as possible, e-bikes are also a realistic option for commuters eager to make a change to their habits but who are looking for an alternative to traditional bicycles.
