Riding a bike is one of the simplest pleasures in life. Not only is it good exercise, its fun at every age and stage in life. However, as we get older or when we suffer physical ailments, riding a bike can become more of an effort than a treat.
But thanks to advancements in modern technology, there are new opportunities for those who would struggle to ride a conventional bicycle. The electric bike or eBike is making cycling for riders of all abilities and strengths much easier allowing them to cycle for longer.
How does an eBike work?
The basic building blocks of an electric is the addition of an electric motor and a battery built around a traditional pedal powered bike. When the rider starts turning the pedals, a sensor activates an electric motor which gives the rider a substantial push. In turn this takes the hard work out of cycling and riding up steep hills is no longer a chore, but a rewarding and easy experience.
Electric bikes come in various styles and designs, some looking drastically different from a traditional bike, or some are cleverly designed to look as close to a regular bike as possible.
Our electric bike, at first glance, is extremely easy to mistake for a traditional mountain bike due to its discreet and minimal design. With all electronic circuitry mounted into the bikes frame, and a small and lightweight battery designed to look like a water bottle, our bike is easily one of the best looking bikes currently on the market.
Range
The ranges achievable from an electric bike can vary, and a large factor influencing the range is the overall weight of the bike. Typically, the heavier the bike, the less range the rider is able to get between charges.
When looking for an electric bike, the general rule of thumb is, the lighter the better. However be careful to only compare similarly spec’d bikes alike.
For example: an electric bike with a 5ah battery will weigh less than a bike with a 10ah battery, however the heavier 10ah bike will easily outperform the 5ah bike despite its heavier weight.
Double the batteries, double the distance
Each electric bike comes with one rechargeable battery as standard, lasting for up to 35 between charging. Shaped like an oversized water bottle and weighing only 2.4 kg, carrying a spare battery during your journey is easy.
Recharging for each battery takes 4-6 hours and can be plugged into any standard outlet in your home. With a spare battery you’ll be able to either cover twice the distance!
eBikes help travellers go further on their own steam
eBikes allow you to cycle further because they give you that little extra energy without overtaxing yourself in the process. This makes them excellent for travelling long distances.
For example eBikes are frequently used to travel long-distances, allowing riders to preserve their energy as they rely partially on the motor. Even if you aren’t taking on a countrywide tour, electric bikes have found popularity with the elderly, physically recovering (from surgery or a muscle issue) and commuters.
